This may be the vacation you have dreamed about. Far removed from the surging crowds and surrounded by unsurpassed charm and beauty, the romance and freedom of the area become a part of your life. Our spot appeals to men and women who like vacation comfort in a simple, informal, natural atmosphere. Lake Webb, generally considered to be one of Maine's most beautiful lakes, is six miles long and two miles wide and is completely surrounded by mountains with White birches, pines and pointed firs marking the shoreline. Its clear water and clean bottom of sand and gravel make ideal conditions for swimming, boating, and fishing. Nearby Mt. Blue State Park has won an award as one of the top10 attractions in New England. This park with its activities and trails along with nearby Tumbledown, and Blueberry peaks constitute some of the best hiking and climbing in Maine ranging in elevation from 2500 to 3200 feet. The Appalachian Trail along with other hiking trails and innumerable logging roads provides hiking experiences to suit any preference from grandma to expert. (Be sure you have proper equipment and a good knowledge of navigation before trying any back-country hiking!) |
Activities Include ...
Galore. But our speciality ... Loons. |
Early morning and dusk is the best time for sightings as they feed by the waters edge. Several years ago we had a rare set of twins in the area. |
Coos Canyon and the Swift River are a short distance from the Inn. This very special spot is a great place to go for a picnic, swim, or gold panning. The water rushes off the rocks of the river and children jump off a small bridge into a natural pool below. Gold was first found in Maine on the Swift River. Guides are available to show you how to pan for gold. |
Angel Falls and Small's Falls are a short drive from Weld. Angel Fall is about a 4 mile hike into the woods off Route 17. Very high, it is especially beautiful in the spring. Small's Falls, where the Sandy River drops through a small gorge, is just off Route 4. A great picnic spot and swimming hole known for it's very daring dive from the top!! |
Mount Blue State Park lies directly across the lake from the Inn. The 6000-acre park includes Mount Blue (very popular hiking trails) towering 3187 feet above its shoreline. The park rangers run a variety of programs in the summer, such as guided nature walks, lectures etc. All programs are available to all Inn guests. |
Lots of logging roads and a special intermediate to expert trail set up and maintained by the State |

For the anglers, there are fish in the lake, and watercraft available for rent. |
